"THERE DO EXIST ENQUIRING MINDS, which long for the truth of the heart, seek it, strive to solve the problems set by life, try to penetrate to the essence of things and phenomena and to penetrate into themselves. If a man reasons and thinks soundly, no matter which path he follows in solving these problems, he must inevitably arrive back at himself, and begin with the solution of the problem of what he is himself and what his place is in the world around him. For without this knowledge, he will have no focal point in his search. Socrates’ words, “Know thyself” remain for all those who seek true knowledge and being."

IMPRESSIONS

"All the substances necessary for the maintenance of the life of the organism, for psychic work, for the higher functions of consciousness and the growth of the higher bodies, are produced by the organism from the food which enters it from outside
"The human organism receives three kinds of food
1. The ordinary food we eat
2. The air we breathe
3. Our impressions
"It is not difficult to agree that air is a kind of food for the organism But in what way impressions can be food may appear at first difficult to understand We must however remember that, with every external impression, whether it takes the form of sound, or vision, or smell, we receive from outside a certain amount of energy, a certain number of vibrations, this energy which enters the organism from outside is food Moreover, as has been said before, energy cannot be transmitted without matter. If an external impression brings external energy with it into the organism it means that external matter also enters which feeds the organism in the full meaning of the term. ..."

from: In Search of the Miraculous, Chapter IX, pg 188 online version

"The Holidays" are a particularly interesting time to be aware of the impressions you are taking in from the world around you. Emotions are highly charged and highly conflicted. So many root buttons (memories) are being pushed and brought to the fore by external forces such as advertising, others expectations of us and their agendas as well as our own expectations of ourselves and others and our own internal agendas -- all too often unnoticed by any of us because we are all so thoroughly taken by it all.

To stand in one's shoes and to 'see' more clearly the mechanics of these processes in ourselves and in others is a privilege, and a gift of the work, a gift from Gurdjieff and all those amazing masters who brought us ways to See and to Know so that we might BE - not sheep, but Men and Women.

Take this opportunity this year to become more conscious, to know more about inner being. OCCUPY your body.

Internal Considering & The Holidays

email:

D: "I have been reading and on the fourth read of Self Observation by Red Hawk.  It has really helped me to understand better. Right now I deal with pain from siblings who did not help me take care of my parents for ten years. Intellectually I understand but I "judge" them still and feel anger off and on.  The work is such nourishment for me and helps me like nothing I have studied before. Identification with my "family" of origin is my intense work now.  My passion for art suffers from the grief of letting them go and also the joy of letting them go."

L: "Hello D...  Thank you for your letter. ... Sorry, I don't know the name Red Hawk or the book. Can you tell me who that is...

It is very hard to be objective when it comes to family and very close friends. Examining and processing past (and even present) events and hurt feelings toward your siblings surrounding your parents long term care in the light of what real work on oneself  brings can be so healing. I worked for many years to learn how to release ... anger, hurt and resentment toward my family ...  so that I could come to a place of [less subjective] understanding and simply Be and Love them ... unconditionally. My Heart appreciated the release. It was in that prison along with everyone else until I let go. It is necessary to let go of the old dreams, plans and expectations and simply Be in the reality that truly is in each moment [I Am] in a state of acceptance - present in the moment.

This inner Work is an example of the voluntary suffering Gurdjieff spoke of. You are experiencing that, as you acknowledge that you are being nourished by the work of self observation. You will see more and more often as you work toward emotional freedom that if you can be present to both what you are experiencing emotionally and identified with, [without being taken by the experience], it will be easier to let it go and something else, [something Higher] begins to take place in you. Real Love, Understanding and Compassion will come to take the negativity's place.

Really the truth is, at the bottom of it all is some poor little "i" or group of "i's" somewhere inside, measuring and counting - keeping score of how much love "it" got for how much love "it" gave and retelling "it's" sad old stories and lies to itself. When you can see those "i's" clearly in a moments of  Being, the pain subsides and is transformed ... True understanding comes, bringing the Love those poor little "i's" have been wishing for [all your life] from those outside yourself  "they" expected to get it from.  You begin to get that Love from yourself, from your Higher self.

Gurdjieff's idea that every stick has two ends serves well when one can stand, whole, in the middle. Whenever I get the poop end, I turn it around and look at what is there on the other end.  I verify this for myself over and over again.

I am also an artist and find that when my [outer] work is interrupted by ... emotional issues, I am identified. I need to stop everything and sit until I am no longer identified with whatever has taken me. Then, when I return to the ... [outer work] , I am so much more present and so much better at my craft...

Happy 2010

“What I do you cannot do; but what you do, I cannot do. The needs are great, and none of us, including me, ever do great things. But we can all do small things, with great love, and together we can do something wonderful.”  ~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta

~
"Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind ?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and old lang syne  (long, long ago)?

For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.
And surely you'll buy your pint cup !
and surely I'll buy mine !
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

We [too] have run about the slopes,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

We [too] have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine (dawn);
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

And there's a hand my trusty friend !
And give us a hand o' thine !
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne."

I Wish everyone, everywhere a year filled with Illumination and Peace.

"Oh Crist Mass Tree"

He thinks he understands.
He thinks with his head brain.
She believes she knows.
The voices in her head tell her so.
He thinks he is wise.
He's just learned a few tricks.
 All
Blind pain bodies.
Dictating, orchestrating
In illusion.

What is the duty of a real friend?
What is the greatest Gift you can give?

Compassion Exercise

Ray Palmer's initial presentation of his philosophy and teaching, i.e.: the comic book name and having levels where you are given titles [exchanging one illusion for another for a short time for those who do not follow through with more intensive, longer lasting studies], etc. can be a bit off putting for some of the more dogmatic practitioners of "better ways" out there, however, one could, for higher purposes, intentionally take the attitude of  allowing.

In my estimation, whatever succeeds in getting the habitually negative to learn that it is actually possible to shift attitude by intentionally changing a thought pattern and to become positive, and to actually experience the benefits of that internal shift...  is a 'good thing." Yes? It is a glimpse, a taste... verification that it is possible to change... however minute. Glimpses are good!

Yes, yes, Palmer's Avatar method is not the Work. Listen, I am grateful that so many people who have a wish to be better human beings and who have not found the work, have found other ways to get a few steps ahead. Perhaps these ways will lead to the way each was meant to reach.

I know I made a lot of stops on my way to the Gurdjieff work. One path led to the next. The proliferation of all the New New New Age groups that are popping up everywhere now and the hordes of people flocking to recently empty churches, synagogues, mosques and temples are proof positive that humanity is feeling a real need for something higher than the next line of Gucci's now. It is happening now. All those who begin a sincere search, regardless of where they begin -  do help themselves, the planet and God. Every drop helps.

I've chosen to post this particular  'lesson' today because I believe it would be helpful for the earth if as many people as possible to try it during the next couple of  months, whoever you are, wherever you are at whatever level of enlightenment you are.  For those who are new to this kind of inner work, feel free to write in with your observations, and comments.

"Instructions for the Avatar Times Compassion Exercise:"

"This exercise can be done anywhere that people congregate (airports, malls, parks, beaches, etc.). It should be done on strangers, unobtrusively, from some distance. Try to do all five steps on the same person.

Step 1  With attention on the person, repeat to yourself: "Just like me, this person is seeking some happiness for his/her life."

Step 2  With attention on the person, repeat to yourself: "Just like me, this person is trying to avoid suffering in his/her life."

Step 3  With attention on the person, repeat to yourself: "Just like me, this person has known sadness, loneliness, and despair."

Step 4  With attention on the person, repeat to yourself: "Just like me, this person is seeking to fulfill his/her needs."

Step 5  With attention on the person, repeat to yourself: "Just like me, this person is learning about life."
