"THERE DO EXIST ENQUIRING MINDS, which long for the truth of the heart, seek it, strive to solve the problems set by life, try to penetrate to the essence of things and phenomena and to penetrate into themselves. If a man reasons and thinks soundly, no matter which path he follows in solving these problems, he must inevitably arrive back at himself, and begin with the solution of the problem of what he is himself and what his place is in the world around him. For without this knowledge, he will have no focal point in his search. Socrates’ words, “Know thyself” remain for all those who seek true knowledge and being."

THE SKY IS FALLING

The Sky Is Falling -Aquatint by George Chung

Henny Penny, also known as Chicken Licken or Chicken Little, is a folk tale with a moral in the form of a cumulative tale about a chicken who believes the world is coming to an end. The phrase "The sky is falling!" features prominently in the story, and has passed into the English language as a common idiom indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent. Versions of the story go back more than 25 centuries and it continues to be referenced in a variety of media. ~ Wikipedia

  1. Henny Penny was the chicken who planted the seeds, harvested the wheat, ground the flour and baked the bread without any help from all the other lazy animals, who only wanted to eat the bread once all the work was done. Two different tales. Once again, Wikipedia proves to be a dubious reference resource.

  2. Thank you for your comments Mr. Bubba and welcome to the blog

I always called the story "Henny Penny or The Sky is Falling". What is the title of the other version you are referring to? Is there a link to it?

It is a lovely story and the truth it demonstrates is a favorite of mine as is the truthe of: "self fulfilling prophecy". hmmm... the words "better watch out, better not pout, better not shout, better not cry I'm telling you why..." come to mind at the moment.

Aren't we so lucky to be alive today? I am grateful to have this technology so that checking out all these interesting little tidbits inherent in the myriad of belief systems humanity is can be done from tiny little desk - a grain of sand, sifting through all the other grains of sand. hmmm... another little song runs through the gray matter: " nowhere man please listen" I don't mean you - it's me singing to myself. One of my inner critics being a meanie to me today.

BTW Bubba - one of my favorite all time names. I love it for men, cats or dogs - even for grandmas and grandpas ;-)
